What is a Vitamin B12 Injection?
ABOUT THE TREATMENT
Vitamin B12 helps maintain healthy nerves and supports red blood cell formation and DNA production.
A B12 injection delivers the vitamin into a muscle. It may be recommended for people with a deficiency or certain absorption difficulties. Your provider will explain the formulation and whether injections or oral supplementation best fit your needs.
Treatment may be scheduled as a standalone visit or alongside an IV appointment, when appropriate.
What benefits can you expect?
When B12 deficiency is present, appropriate treatment can:
Restore low vitamin B12 levels.
-
Help treat anemia caused by B12 deficiency.
-
Improve fatigue or weakness related to deficiency.
-
Help address nerve symptoms caused by low B12.
Improvement varies depending on the cause and duration of the deficiency. B12 injections are not an instant energy boost and do not improve energy in people who already have adequate B12.
Is this infusion appropriate for you?
Your provider may discuss B12 testing or supplementation if you have:
-
Confirmed low vitamin B12 levels.
-
A condition or surgery that affects B12 absorption.
-
A vegan or vegetarian diet with limited B12 intake.
-
Long-term use of medications that can affect B12 levels, such as metformin or certain acid-reducing medicines.
These factors do not automatically mean you need an injection. Our team will assess your individual needs before recommending treatment.
